Christopher Columbus first spotted the island in 1493. This is why the name Saint Christopher and Nevis. Over the years this name was shortened to become “Saint Kitts” and then again to “St Kitts”. Today SKN means “St. Kitts and Nevis”.

Passports issued to citizens have “St. Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis” etched on them to avoid any confusion.
