Other “Family visas” that allow family members to migrate to Australia are –
- Remaining Relative visa

Remaining Relative visa
This is a Permanent Resident visa. It is for persons outside Australia who want to migrate to Australia on the basis of being the ONLY remaining “Relative” of an Australian citizen or permanent resident. It allows visa holders to live, work & study in Australia indefinitely and, upon meeting eligibility requirements, apply for Australian citizenship.
Some of the criteria to be met to be eligible for this visa are :
- Your Australian relative must be the only living relative that you have
- You must be sponsored by that Relative, whose sponsorship must be approved before you are eligible for this visa
- Your relative must also give an “Assurance of Support”
- You must meet Health & Character requirements
- You may include your spouse & dependent children in your visa application
Aged Dependent Relative visa
This is also a Permanent Resident visa. It is for a single elderly person living outside Australia who wants to migrate to Australia on the basis of being financially dependent on their “Relative” in Australia. It allows visa holders to live, work & study in Australia indefinitely and, upon meeting eligibility requirements, apply for Australian citizenship.
Some criteria to be met to be eligible for this visa are :
- Your relative in Australia must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- You must be over 65 years of age. The exact age at which you will become eligible for this visa will depend on your date of birth & when you wish to apply
- You must be SINGLE
- You must be sponsored by your Australian relative, whose sponsorship must be approved before you are eligible for this visa
- Your relative must also give an “Assurance of Support”
- You must meet Health & Character requirements
- You can include a “Dependent” child or step-child in your visa application
Orphan Relative visa
You are eligible for this visa if you are –
- Outside Australia
- Under 18 years of age
- Single
- An orphan whose parents have died or are missing or are incapable of caring for you due to a physical or mental incapacity
Your Australian citizen or permanent resident “Relative” must be willing to sponsor you to become a Permanent Resident in Australia.
Some criteria to be met to be eligible for this visa include –
- You must be an Orphan
- Your Australian “Relative” must preferably have either custody or guardianship of you
- Your Australian “Relative” must sponsor you & that sponsorship must be approved before you can be eligible for this visa
- You must meet Health & Character requirements
Carer visa
A Permanent Resident visa, this visa is for a person outside Australia who wants to migrate to Australia to take care of an Australian citizen or permanent resident “Relative” who is suffering from a long-term medical condition. It allows you to live, work & study in Australia indefinitely, and upon being eligible, apply for Australian citizenship.
Some criteria to be met are as follows :
- You must be related to the Australian citizen or permanent resident relative
- Your Australian relative must prove that they are unable to access care options in Australia
- There must be a need to provide care for at least the next 2 years
- You must fully understand your relative’s medical condition & what their care needs are
- You must be sponsored by your relative or their spouse, and that sponsorship must be approved before you are eligible for this visa
- You must meet Health & Character requirements
- You can include your family members in your application
