  • EB-5 Regional Center Program receives 3-month extension

President Trump has just signed a short-term spending bill to end the shutdown of the shuttered portions of the US government departments, which was the longest in it’s history. However, the bill was amended to reopen the government only until February 15, 2019. This gives only a 3-week extension to the EB-5 Investor Visa Program.

It remains to be seen what would happen beyond February 15, 2019. Short-term re-authorizations of the EB-5 Investor Program have become the norm in the recent past, a policy framework which brings forth a measure of insecurity amongst prospective investors. What is required is a long-term authorization of the EB-5 Visa Program, even if it is with increased minimum investment limits. This would provide the much needed clarity to prospective investors. We hope that the US government will, sooner rather than later, take the necessary steps to achieve this objective.

The EB-5 Investor Visa Program was created by the US Congress in 1990. It allows non-US Citizens to obtain lawful US Permanent Residency (Green Card) by making specified levels of investment in a US business & create a specified number of jobs for US workers.

We shall continue to keep all stakeholders updated on the developments relating to this story.
