  • 10 Years of the UK Investor Visa Scheme – a statistical review

It has been exactly 10 years now since the launch of the Entrepreneur Visa UK and the Tier 1 Investor Visa UK. A review of the statistics from the “Office of National Statistics” brings forth the following interesting facts relating to the UK Immigration Tier 1 Program :

1. In Q3 2018, the Home Office issued visas to 96 Investors (and 172 of their dependants). It also issued
Entrepreneur Visas to 296 applicants (and 552 of their dependants)

2. Application volumes for the UK Tier Investor Visas is down 16% compared to the same quarter last year,
whereas those for the Entrepreneur Visas is up 30% compared to the same period last year

3. American, Turkish & Indian investors interest in the UK Tier 1 Investor Visa continues to grow
steadily

4. Since the program opened in 2008, it has raised a total of USD 8.3 billion. Only one other country in the world, USA, has raised more FDI through investor migrants than the UK.

The UK Immigration System comprises of “Five Tiers”. To be eligible for a visa in any one of the five tiers, you must pass a points-based assessment. The minimum number of points varies for each tier.

The following visas fall outside the purview of the five tiers :
● Visitor visas,
● Family visas, and
● Business visas

The UK has been one of the most preferred migrant destinations for Indians for a long time. However, there is a lack of awareness of the investor migrant routes. We, at Migratesmart, will continue to create awareness amongst prospective investors, so that they do not fall prey to unscrupulous agents who insist on marketing their illegal migration routes to unsuspecting migrants.
